It’s famous for its annual migration of over a million wildebeests and 250,000 zebras, making it one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The park hosts over 500 bird species and diverse wildlife, including lions, leopards, giraffes, and hippos. Its varied landscapes range from short grass plains to hills and forests. While the park can be visited year-round, the best time is during the dry season from June to October. Tarangire National Park is located on the northern part of Tanzania with a wide variety of animals and landscape whereby the best part is the elephant herds. It is known to be the park which has the greatest concentration of African elephants and the ancient baobab trees. Tarangire has an area of approximately 2603 square Kilometers and within the park it is possible to see plenty of animals like the giraffes, Zebras, Buffalos, warthogs, Lions, Leopards, Impala, gazelles, dik dik and many more species. In this park, there are more than 500 birds’ species like the bee eaters, swallows, ostriches, kori bustards, hammerkops, vultures etc. The word Tarangire comes from Mbugwe tribe whereby “Tara” means river and “Ngire” means warthogs therefore it is the river of warthogs. In Tarangire, you will be astonished by the large African elephants as well as the huge and ancient baobab trees. You will sleep in tents set on the ground with the crew and you will also have a private chef who will prepare all your meals. DAY 1: ARRIVAL AT THE AIRPORT TO ARUSHA Upon arrival at the airport in Arusha (ARK) or Kilimanjaro international airport (JRO), you will be met and welcomed by your representative from Gardenia African Safaris who will give you a short brief before you drive to your lodgings in Arusha for overnight. Destination: Arusha city Accommodation: Venus Premier Hotel / Venice Hotel Meal: Bed & Breakfast DAY 2: ARUSHA TO TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK After breakfast at your Arusha hotel around 7:30-8:00 AM, your driver will take you on a 2.5-hour drive to Tarangire National Park, known for its large elephant herds and ancient baobab trees. Covering about 2,603 square kilometers, the park features diverse wildlife and over 500 bird species. Enjoy a picnic lunch around noon, then continue your game drive until late afternoon. Finally, head to your campsite in Mto wa Mbu for dinner and overnight. Destination: Tarangire National Park Accommodation: Migombani Campsite Meal: Full Board (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner) DAY 3: NGORONGORO CRATER TO MTO WA MBU After breakfast at your Mto wa Mbu campsite around 7:30-8:00 AM, depart for Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a one-hour drive to the gate. The Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is 600 meters deep and home to about 25,000 mammals and over 500 bird species, including migratory flamingos. It’s the best place in East Africa to see endangered black rhinos. Enjoy lunch at the Ngoitoktok picnic site by the hippo pool, then finish your game drive before ascending the crater and heading to your accommodation for dinner and overnight. Destination: Ngorongoro crater Accommodation: Migombani Campsite Meal: Full Board (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner) DAY 4: LAKE MANYARA NATIONAL PARK TO ARUSHA After breakfast at your campsite in Mto wa Mbu around 7:30 AM, you’ll drive one hour to Lake Manyara National Park, known for its diverse birdlife and tree-climbing lions. The park covers 325 square kilometers, with a shallow alkaline lake that attracts many bird species, including flamingos and pelicans. You’ll also see wildlife like elephants, giraffes, and zebras. After a picnic lunch, you’ll return to Arusha for a special farewell from Gardenia African Safaris.
